Worked for Handy? The FTC Is Mailing $2.7 Million in Refund Checks
If you did gig work through Handy (now Angi Services) and got hit with fees or fines, a refund check may be on its way to you.

Money is going out to Handy workers right now
The Federal Trade Commission is sending out more than $2.7 million in refund checks to people who worked through Handy Technologies, the gig company that now does business as Angi Services.
The refunds go to workers who were charged certain fees and fines while working on the platform. In total, the FTC is sending checks to 62,893 people.
This is not a loan or an offer. It is your own money coming back to you, and it is completely free to receive.
What Handy did, according to the FTC
In January 2025, the FTC and the New York Attorney General took action against Handy. The complaint said the company used ads with earnings claims that did not match what most workers actually made.
The FTC also said Handy failed to clearly disclose fees and fines. Those charges led to millions of dollars being withheld from workers' wages.
The refund checks are meant to return money to workers who were charged eligible fees and fines.
Cash your check within 90 days
If you get a check, cash it within 90 days, as printed on the check. Do not sit on it.
Have questions about your payment? You can call the refund administrator, Simpluris Inc., at 833-647-9063. You can also read the FTC's answers to common questions on its website.
One important warning: the FTC never asks you to pay money or hand over your bank account information to get a refund. If someone contacts you claiming to be the FTC and asks for payment or account details, it is a scam.
